Important information first:

We as the editors of Beauty Lara are aware that aesthetic medicine is an extensive topic that must be treated with a great sense of responsibility. In this article, we explain all the important information about the Russian Lips lip injections with the hyaluronic acid procedure and provide an honest testimonial from one of our editors.

The editor who had the treatment carried out is an adult and is aware of the consequences of the procedure. She also informed herself in detail in advance about the procedure and its process and thought about it for a long time. She found a trustworthy practice for the procedure and had a consultation beforehand.

We recommend that anyone considering having an aesthetic procedure should take the same steps in advance. Such a procedure must be carefully considered and should not be carried out lightly.

Russian lips are a special technique of lip injections with hyaluronic acid. This is a minimally invasive aesthetic procedure on the lips in which hyaluronic acid is injected under the skin of the lips to visually plump them up and sculpt the shape of the lips.

Russian Lips aim is to emphasize the central area of the lips as well as the center of the lips and the contours of the lips. In this way, they create a voluminous kissable mouth that resembles the lips of dolls. This is why Russian Lips are often called “Doll Lips”.

The Russian Lips technique is nothing new. The filler (hyaluronic acid) is injected under the skin of the lips using a fine needle. The focus is on the central area of the lips and the center of the lips.

Small amounts of filler are injected vertically into the upper and lower lip. It starts in the center and then gradually works towards the corners of the mouth. The shape of the lips is then individually determined to flatter the face so that the contours are naturally shaped.

The lips are then lightly massaged so that the hyaluronic acid is well distributed. As a rule, no more than one milliliter is used for the injection. More filler could lead to unnatural results.

Hyaluronic acid is an endogenous substance that is naturally found in connective tissue and has long been used for cosmetic purposes. Hyaluronic acid is produced artificially in the laboratory and used in cosmetics to give the skin more elasticity and moisturize it. Hyaluron is also often used for injecting wrinkles, dark circles, and lips.

In this case, hyaluronic acid is used as a filler that is injected into the lips by a doctor using a fine needle. The filler can have the following effects

  • Emphasizing the lip contour
  • Reshaping the shape of the lips
  • Increasing the volume of the lips
  • Balancing out asymmetries of the lips
  • Filling in lip wrinkles

Russian Lips are particularly suitable for people with small and thin lips who want more fullness and volume and a beautiful kissable mouth. Russian lips are known for being particularly natural and creating a beautiful lip contour with an accentuated lip center. Even from the side, they generally do not have the “duck shape” that is often typical of injections.

A classic lip injection distributes the filler evenly over the entire lips and is primarily aimed at filling the lips with volume. The lips appear fuller and plumper overall and the natural lip shape is generally retained. However, slight shape corrections can also be made and asymmetries can be balanced out.

However, it is not uncommon for a normal injection to result in a so-called projection of the lips. This means that when viewed from the profile, the lips have a slight “duckbill”.

This does not tend to happen with Russian lips. The main focus here is on sculpting the lips and emphasizing the center of the lips and the heart of the lips. The lips appear larger, have slightly more volume, and have a doll-like shape. The results are usually very natural.

As hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally in the body, it is very well tolerated, but it also breaks down naturally in the body over time. On average, injections last around six to nine months, but this can vary from person to person.

To achieve long-term results, the injection must therefore be repeated at regular intervals. When first applied, the hyaluronic acid may also break down particularly quickly after three to six months.

Lip injections are not a cheap procedure. Depending on the doctor, treatment can cost between $700 and $1500.

Important: Don’t just pay attention to the price of such an aesthetic procedure, but also find out in advance about the respective technique and the doctor treating you. You should find out the following before the procedure:

  • Does the doctor have good reviews on the internet?
  • Do you already know people who have been there and can give you a recommendation?
  • Does the doctor offer consultations?
  • The price can also give you an indication of the quality of the treatment. If it is far too cheap, this is usually not a good sign.

We’re not going to lie: Yes, lip injections are not without pain and can be quite painful. Some doctors use an anesthetic cream to minimize the pain. But even then, it can still hurt. Read more about this in our experience report below.

As hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally in the body, no major side effects or intolerances are to be expected. However, the punctures can cause bruising and swelling. This is completely normal and will disappear after a few days.

You may experience circulatory problems, nausea, and sweating during the treatment. If this is the case for you, talk to your doctor directly and take a short break.

It can also happen that small bumps or lumps form on the lips after the injection. However, these usually disappear again after a few days as soon as the hyaluronic acid has spread.

The initial situation

I already had lip fillers in my lips, but it had been about 1.5 years since I had my lips injected. Back then, I had a classic injection and was very satisfied. As I still had a nice lip shape and fullness, I only wanted to have my lips slightly filled in.

I opted for the Russian Lips technique as it is particularly natural and perfect for my lip shape.

The treatment

After a consultation, my lips were first numbed with an anesthetic cream. My lips quickly felt numb and the injection could begin.

The doctor started in the middle of the upper lip and injected vertically under the lip with the needle. I’m not going to lie – despite the anesthetic, it hurt. But you can stand it for 15 to 20 minutes.

Several small punctures were made on the upper and lower lip – mainly in the middle of the lips, but also partly towards the corner of the mouth to achieve a symmetrical lip shape.

Immediately after the treatment, my lips were quite swollen, and a bit bumpy, and on the second day, I had slight bruising. After about three days, the swelling has gone down, the spots have become more subtle and the small bumps have evened out.

The result

I am very happy with my result. In the before/after picture above you can see the result directly after the treatment. After a few days, the swelling has gone down a bit and the small bumps have evened out.

It turned out super subtle – exactly how I wanted it. Maybe I’ll go back for a touch-up to intensify the effect a little more. But it’s better to top it up again than to have too much straight away and be unhappy, isn’t it?

The pros and cons of Russian Lips

Russian lips (also known as doll lips) are a special lip injection technique. The center of the lips and the heart of the lips are emphasized. The results are particularly natural and subtle.
