Dryness, wrinkles, dark circles, bags under the eyes and crow’s feet: many problems around the eye area can be regulated with the right eye care. One thing that should definitely not be missing: an eye mask.

We have tested several eye masks and can now finally present our top 4.

In this article, we also reveal everything you need to know about the correct application, how you can easily make an eye mask yourself and answer the most frequently asked questions on the subject.

Annemarie Börlind Hyaluron Eye Masks

best eye masks

The effect and tolerability of Annemarie Börlind hyaluronic eye masks have been scientifically confirmed.

Let’s start with our test winner: the eye masks from Annemarie Börlind. I have been using the natural cosmetic eye pads with hyaluronic acid regularly since I discovered them almost a year ago.

I apply them about once a week after cleansing my face in the evening. What I notice immediately after using it: it has a calming, decongestant, moisturizing and nourishing effect. My dark circles immediately look less dark and deep. I would not have expected the immediate effect beforehand, but it is undeniable.

One pack contains 6×2 eye masks. So if you use them once a week, the pack will last for six weeks. Of course, you can also use the eye masks twice a week or even more often.

According to Annemarie Börlind, the effect and tolerability of the eye mask has been scientifically confirmed.

MAGICSTRIPES Wake Me Up Collagen Eye Patches

Magicstripes eye masks are soaked in collagen and are said to be particularly effective as anti-ageing care.

The eye masks from Magicstripes are also natural cosmetic eye pads. After a friend had often raved about the collagen eye masks, I finally had to try them – and I really like them! I felt much fresher after using them and the immediate effect was visible again.

One pack contains 5×2 eye masks. Depending on whether you want to use them once or twice a week (or even more often), this is enough for up to five weeks.

Rodial Dragon’s Blood Jelly Eye Patches

bruder eye mask

The hyaluronic eye mask from Rodial is not made from silicone, but from organic cellulose.

All good things come in threes and so another natural cosmetic product has made it to the top of this test: the Rodial hyaluronic eye masks. Unlike the first two eye masks, however, Rodial’s are not gel patches but pads made from organic cellulose.

I personally prefer gel pads because I have the feeling that they are more effective. But because the fabric of the Rodial eye masks is particularly thin, they are more comfortable for those who don’t like the feeling of having something so thick under their eyes.

The eye mask still had an effect and my eye area was nice and refreshed afterwards. Unfortunately, they are comparatively expensive per mask and application.

One pack contains 2×1 eye mask. It is therefore only enough for one application.

Collagen Pads For Women By Purederm

Best Eye Mask

Purederm Collagen Eye Zone Mask was produced to be the solution for all ages and genders for every skin type.

The collagen eye masks from Purederm not only look good thanks to their color, they can also do a lot! We don’t know whether it’s the 24-carat gold or the allantoin, but my eyes looked noticeably refreshed after using these eye masks.

I do like my Annemarie Börlind eye masks a little more – the freshness kick is even more noticeable here and they are natural cosmetics – but the Purederm eye masks are much cheaper and their packaging is more environmentally friendly.

Instead of individual sachets, there are 2 pack of 30 sheets.

The most popular eye masks are eye pads (made of gel or cellulose), which we simply place under our eyes. And we are also absolute fans of this variant. But that’s by no means all the possibilities.

For example, there are also eye masks in cream or gel form to apply, cooling gel eye masks that we put in the fridge or warming eye masks.

Our favorites from each category.

Just like ‘normal’ face masks, eye masks are also available in cream or gel form. You can simply apply them to cleansed skin around the eyes.

Tip: Use your ring finger for this. This has the least force and is therefore less likely to cause wrinkles.

Cooling Gel eye mask

It’s basically a mixture of a cooling pack and a sleeping mask. Fresh from the fridge, it helps to reduce puffiness around the eye area.

Warming Eye Mask

A warming eye mask can also have a beneficial effect and relieve symptoms of blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids), styes, dark circles and dry eyes.

The eye mask is electrically heated and has different heat levels and time intervals.

Best Eye Mask for Sleeping

A sleeping mask is of course also an eye mask. It helps us to completely darken our eyes at home or on the plane and relax as much as possible.

Silk sleep masks are the best, as they are particularly gentle on our skin.

The skin around our eyes is thinner than the rest of our face and therefore more sensitive. In addition, there are hardly any sebaceous glands here and the skin therefore dries out more quickly.

It’s no wonder that many people complain about dryness and wrinkles around the eyes in particular and that we also have to deal with dark circles, bags under the eyes and crow’s feet.

This is why eye care should be particularly intensive and rich. An eye mask can provide the regular extra portion of care that provides the eye area with even more intensive moisture and anti-ageing ingredients.

Eye pads, for example, are soaked in serums that penetrate particularly well into the deep layers of the skin. At the same time, the mask prevents moisture from escaping from the skin during application.

The aim of eye care is to ensure that the skin never dries out, otherwise wrinkles and the like will develop more easily. As the eye area is more sensitive than the rest of the face, it is also important to use high-quality eye masks that are as non-irritating as possible.

How often you use your eye mask depends entirely on the needs of your skin. If you are currently struggling with dryness, puffy eyes or dark circles, there is nothing wrong with using it daily. Even if you want to prevent wrinkles in the long term, you should give your eyes an extra dose of care on a regular basis.

However, many people apply their eye mask at least once a week – for example on the typical beauty day, Sunday. Either way, you can only overdo it if you have opted for an eye mask with very strong ingredients. However, these are not suitable for a sensitive eye area anyway.

The application of eye masks is super easy…

Clean the eye area and carefully pat dry

Place the eye pads under the lower lash line and leave to work (approx. 15 minutes depending on the mask)

Remove the eye pads and carefully massage the remaining essence into the skin – done!

If you have a nourishing eye mask in gel or cream form, you basically proceed in exactly the same way. Instead of simply removing the eye mask as with the pads, you can dab it off with a soft cloth. Then care for the eye area as usual.

Of course, you can also easily make an eye mask yourself.

Cucumber mask (for swollen eyes)

We all know the classic natural eye mask: cucumber slices. Simply cut two slices from a freshly chilled cucumber and leave them on a plate for a few minutes (the slices will lose a little water and feel better on your eyes later).

You can then place the slices on your closed eyes, leave them to work for 15 minutes and relax. The cool cucumber mask not only helps to reduce puffiness due to its temperature, but can also release micronutrients into the skin during this time.

Grape seed oil mask (for dry eyes)

Grape seed oil is full of valuable secondary plant substances that care for our skin. It helps to balance and regenerate dry skin and soothes the sensitive area around the eyes.

To make a grapeseed oil mask, simply apply grapeseed oil to two cotton pads, place them on your closed eyes and leave to work for 15 minutes. Do not wash off the remaining grape seed oil afterwards, but gently massage it into the skin with your ring finger.

Tea bag mask (for sagging eyes)

Do your eyes urgently need an energy boost? Then caffeine will help, just like on an early Monday morning. All you need for this DIY eye mask are two cooled tea bags of green or black tea. Simply place them on your closed eyes and relax for 15 minutes.

The caffeine contained in green and black tea has a revitalizing, firming effect on the eye area. In fact, caffeine has long been associated with an anti-ageing effect.

Are there organic/natural cosmetic eye masks?

Of course, and there are many! The area around our eyes is particularly sensitive and prone to dryness. That’s why it makes sense to use organic or natural cosmetic products here.

The first three eye pads in this article are genuine natural cosmetic products. We were unable to conclusively determine this for the other two. If you are interested in natural eye care, you should definitely take a look at our article on natural cosmetic eye pads.

Which eye masks are fragrance-free?

Both the eye masks from Annemarie Börlind and Magicstripes are fragrance-free. According to CodeCheck, however, the eye mask from Rodial contains perfume.

Which eye masks for men?

There is virtually no difference between men’s and women’s skin. Although there are eye masks that are advertised specifically for men, this is pure marketing. Men can use exactly the same eye masks as women.

At the beginning of the article you will find a comparison of the best eye masks.

Do you use eye masks in the morning or in the evening?

Whether you apply your eye mask in the morning or evening is entirely up to you. We usually have more time for an extensive beauty routine in the evening, but an eye mask works just as well in the morning.

Especially if you wake up in the morning with puffy eyes and an important day ahead, it can make sense to invest the extra 15 minutes for the application time.

Where is the best place to buy eye masks?

You can now buy eye masks almost everywhere. You can find them in perfumeries , drugstores and of course you can also buy them online on Amazon, for example. Just as you prefer.

Conclusion

Eye masks are a simple and effective way to care for the eye area, restore moisture and reduce puffiness. You can even prevent wrinkles with suitable care. Because eye pads are often soaked in a serum that penetrates into the deep layers of the skin, an immediate effect can even be seen.

In this article, we have answered the most frequently asked questions on this topic and presented the best eye masks. Now all you have to do is choose an eye mask, apply it and relax. So we’re off to the home spa…
